🌍💵 Bénin Ratifie l’Accord sur l’ECO : Un Pas Vers l’Intégration Monétaire et Économique en Afrique de l’Ouest
Sous la direction du président de l’Assemblée nationale, Louis Gbèhounou VLAVONOU, les députés de la 9ème législature du Bénin ont franchi un cap décisif dans la consolidation de la coopération monétaire et économique en Afrique de l’Ouest. Lors de la séance plénière du 23 janvier 2024 au Palais des Gouverneurs à Porto-Novo, ils ont approuvé la ratification de l’accord sur l’ECO, ainsi que d’autres accords clés sur la cybersécurité et la cybercriminalité, signalant une évolution majeure dans la politique économique et technologique du pays.
L’adoption unanime de l’accord de coopération monétaire, signé à Abidjan le 21 décembre 2019, entre les gouvernements des États membres de l’Union Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UMOA) et le gouvernement de la République française, marque une étape importante dans la modernisation de l’UMOA. Ce nouvel accord, comportant un préambule et dix articles répartis en cinq titres, vise à faciliter l’extension progressive de l’UMOA à d’autres pays de la Communauté économique des États d’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO).
Les députés du groupe parlementaire “Les Démocrates”, sous la houlette de leur président Nouréni Atchadé, ont exprimé un soutien unanime à cette initiative, soulignant l’importance de cette ratification pour l’intégration régionale et la stabilité monétaire. Parmi les principales décisions de l’accord figurent l’arrêt de la centralisation des réserves de change au Trésor français, le retrait des représentants français des organes de décision de l’UMOA, et la transition de la monnaie FCFA en ECO.
La ratification de cet accord par le Bénin témoigne de sa volonté de renforcer la coopération avec les États de la sous-région et de promouvoir une intégration économique plus profonde. Le nouvel accord préserve des paramètres économiques clés tels que le maintien de la parité fixe à l’EURO et la garantie de convertibilité illimitée de la monnaie par la France, assurant ainsi la stabilité et la résilience de la monnaie de l’UMOA.
En conclusion, cette décision historique du Bénin ouvre la voie à de nouvelles perspectives économiques et financières pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest, posant les fondations d’une intégration régionale renforcée et d’une monnaie commune plus forte. Elle reflète l’engagement du Bénin à jouer un rôle actif dans l’architecture monétaire et économique de la région, contribuant ainsi au développement et à la prospérité partagée de l’Afrique de l’Ouest.
