Le Parlement ghanéen a récemment adopté un projet de loi qui a provoqué une vague de condamnations internationales, en raison de son contenu visant à criminaliser les personnes LGBTQ+ ainsi que leurs soutiens. Ce projet de loi, désigné sous le nom de “Projet de loi 2024 sur les droits sexuels et les valeurs familiales”, entend élargir les sanctions pénales contre les individus s’identifiant comme lesbiennes, gays, bisexuels, transgenres, transsexuels, et queer, pour le simple fait d’être eux-mêmes.

Les Nations Unies ont exprimé leur profonde préoccupation face à cette législation, la qualifiant de “profondément troublante”. Elles ont instamment demandé au gouvernement ghanéen de ne pas mettre ce projet de loi en vigueur, mettant en avant les risques accrus de violence, de stigmatisation, et de discrimination que cela pourrait entraîner pour les personnes en raison de leur orientation sexuelle ou de leur identité de genre.

Le projet de loi inclut des dispositions criminalisant les relations sexuelles entre personnes du même sexe, les activités sexuelles LGBTQ+, ainsi que les manifestations publiques d’affection au sein de cette communauté. Cette initiative législative a suscité une vive inquiétude parmi les défenseurs des droits humains, qui voient dans ce projet de loi une menace directe aux libertés fondamentales et à la dignité des personnes LGBTQ+ au Ghana.

L’appel des Nations Unies au gouvernement ghanéen souligne la nécessité de protéger tous les citoyens contre la violence et la discrimination, et rappelle l’importance du respect des droits humains universels. Cette situation met en lumière les défis persistants auxquels sont confrontées les communautés LGBTQ+ dans de nombreuses parties du monde, où elles luttent pour leur reconnaissance et leur protection contre les lois et politiques discriminatoires.
