Il était l’incarnation du changement, le symbole d’un Canada progressiste et ouvert sur le monde. Dix ans après son ascension fulgurante, Justin Trudeau, 43 ans à son élection en 2015, traverse une période tumultueuse marquée par des scandales, des crises politiques et une chute drastique de popularité.

Un début prometteur

Fils de l’ancien Premier ministre Pierre Trudeau, Justin Trudeau accède au pouvoir en 2015 à la tête du Parti libéral. Dynamique et charismatique, il promet un « vrai changement » et forme un gouvernement exemplaire en matière de diversité et de parité hommes-femmes. Ses réformes, notamment la légalisation du cannabis et l’accueil de 70 000 réfugiés syriens, marquent ses premières années. Il se positionne comme l’antithèse de son voisin américain, Donald Trump, adoptant une politique migratoire ouverte et progressiste.

Les premiers revers

Cependant, son mandat est rapidement assombri par des scandales. L’affaire SNC-Lavalin, où il est accusé d’avoir exercé des pressions pour protéger une entreprise québécoise d’un procès, entame gravement sa crédibilité. À cela s’ajoutent des controverses personnelles, comme des photos où il apparaît grimé en noir, ternissant son image de leader inclusif.

Malgré ces turbulences, Trudeau est reconduit en 2019, mais son mandat est fragilisé par la pandémie de Covid-19 et une inflation galopante qui pèse sur les Canadiens.

Une décennie de pouvoir, une crise majeure

En 2024, Trudeau fait volte-face sur l’immigration, remettant en question son impact économique, un revirement qui choque les défenseurs de son héritage multiculturaliste. Il est également confronté à des pressions économiques extérieures, notamment la menace de droits de douane de 25 % imposés par Donald Trump, ainsi qu’à une crise interne marquée par la démission de sa vice-présidente et l’effritement de sa coalition.

Pour le peuple canadien, Justin Trudeau n’est plus l’homme du renouveau. Sa capacité à relever les défis économiques et politiques est mise en doute.

L’héritage en question

Alors que Justin Trudeau approche la fin de sa décennie au pouvoir, son bilan divise. Si ses premières années incarnent une vision progressiste et audacieuse, les scandales et les échecs économiques ont miné son aura. Reste à savoir s’il saura rebondir ou s’il deviendra une figure emblématique de l’éphémère gloire politique.
