Libreville – Dans un tournant inattendu des événements, peu après l’annonce officielle de la réélection du président Ali Bongo avec 64,27% des votes, un groupe de militaires a interrompu la programmation régulière de la chaîne de télévision Gabon 24 pour proclamer l’annulation des élections et la dissolution des institutions gouvernementales gabonaises.
Ce mercredi tumultueux, 30 août, a vu une suite d’événements rapides qui ont bouleversé le paysage politique du Gabon. Les informations initiales concernant la victoire électorale d’Ali Bongo ont été suivies d’une intervention militaire très médiatisée. Les soldats à l’écran comprenaient des membres de la garde républicaine, de la garde prétorienne présidentielle, ainsi que des membres de l’armée régulière et des policiers.
Le Centre gabonais des élections, responsable de l’organisation du scrutin, avait auparavant diffusé les résultats finaux. Cependant, alors que ces chiffres étaient annoncés sur Gabon Première, des coups de feu ont été entendus. La même information a été relayée plus tard par Gabon 24, dont les studios sont situés à l’intérieur du palais présidentiel.

Ce bouleversement majeur fait suite à l’annonce que le président Ali Bongo, au pouvoir depuis quatorze ans, a été réélu, malgré les allégations de fraude avancées par son principal rival, Albert Ondo Ossa, qui a obtenu 30,77% des votes.
L’intervention militaire a également annoncé la fermeture des frontières gabonaises “jusqu’à nouvel ordre”, tout en assurant la population de leur engagement à maintenir la paix et la stabilité dans le pays.
