Le mur du Port de Cotonou vient de s’enrichir d’une œuvre monumentale qui ne manquera pas de marquer les esprits : la fresque d’Eduardo Kobra, graffeur brésilien de renom. En présence de Madame Claudine Talon, mécène du projet, de Messieurs les Ministres, de Monsieur le Conseiller Spécial du Chef de l’Etat, et de nombreux autres invités de marque, la fresque a été dévoilée au public en grande pompe ce mardi 3 mai 2023.
Cette œuvre, dont la conception a débuté il y a moins de deux ans, s’inscrit dans une démarche visant à faire de Cotonou une cité de l’art et de la culture, où la créativité est permanente. Le mur du Port de Cotonou, long de quatre kilomètres, est désormais un lieu incontournable pour les amateurs d’art urbain, accueillant aussi bien des artistes internationaux de renom que des plasticiens béninois.
La fresque d’Eduardo Kobra, spécialiste des fresques monumentales, apporte une dimension encore plus internationale à ce mur impressionnant. Le graffeur brésilien a signé plusieurs œuvres emblématiques à New York, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires et dans d’autres grandes villes du monde, valorisant les bâtiments et édifices publics de son extraordinaire touche néoréaliste.
Mais cette fresque va bien au-delà de l’esthétique : elle véhicule un message universel et engagé. Eduardo Kobra milite en faveur des causes de la paix, de l’écologie et de la tolérance, face aux guerres, aux destructions de l’environnement et au racisme. À travers cette fresque, il met en avant le dialogue interreligieux, une valeur fondamentale au Bénin.
Le Bénin, terre d’histoire et de culture, est connu pour être un pays de tolérance religieuse, où les différentes confessions sont respectueuses les unes des autres et cohabitent pacifiquement. Cette tradition se manifeste par le dialogue qui entretiennent les différentes religions, comme la basilique de l’Immaculée Conception érigée en face du Temple des Pythons à Ouidah. La fresque d’Eduardo Kobra rend hommage à cette tradition en représentant des adeptes de toutes les religions dialoguant et coexistant pacifiquement.
Cette fresque monumentale témoigne de l’engagement du gouvernement béninois à faire de l’art et de la culture des leviers de développement économique et social. Grâce à l’Agence de développement des arts et de la culture, au Quartier culturel et créatif de Cotonou et au Musée d’Art Contemporain de Cotonou, le Bénin se positionne comme une destination incontournable pour les amateurs d’art. La fresque d’Eduardo Kobra vient renforcer cette image, en donnant une dimension internationale à l’art urbain béninois.
