L’initiative émane de l’Autorité de sûreté radiologique et de radioprotection, dirigée par William Aguiar. Cette collaboration spéciale voit le Bénin bénéficier d’une formation intensive de quatre jours dispensée par l’AIEA. L’objectif principal est de renforcer les compétences techniques des experts béninois pour détecter, prévenir et combattre les menaces nucléaires, surtout lors de grands événements. La prochaine Coupe du Monde de Pétanque, qui promet d’accueillir un grand nombre de participants, est particulièrement dans le collimateur.
“La sécurité des participants est notre priorité absolue. C’est pourquoi nous avons sollicité l’appui de l’AIEA. Actuellement, nous sommes à notre quatrième activité organisée dans ce cadre. À l’issue de cette formation, qui concerne 25 personnes, nous aurons les compétences nécessaires pour détecter toute matière radioactive et intervenir en cas de menace nucléaire à Cotonou”, a souligné un représentant de l’autorité nationale.
Pour assister le Bénin dans cette mission cruciale, des experts du Niger, du Cameroun et de l’Ouganda collaborent étroitement avec les institutions béninoises, renforçant ainsi la coopération régionale en matière de sécurité nucléaire.
