Les derniers développements politiques en Afrique de l’Ouest, notamment le coup d’État militaire en cours au Niger, soulignent une tendance inquiétante de la résurgence de l’instabilité dans une région déjà aux prises avec des défis de sécurité majeurs. Comprendre les racines et les implications de cette instabilité est essentiel pour assurer un avenir pacifique et prospère pour les pays de la région.
Retour aux vieux démons : Instabilité et insécurité
Le coup d’État au Niger n’est que le dernier d’une série d’interventions militaires dans la politique nationale en Afrique de l’Ouest. Bien que ces mouvements puissent être salués par certains comme un moyen de contrer la corruption ou l’injustice perçues, l’histoire nous montre que de tels changements de régime peuvent souvent exacerber les problèmes existants, introduisant de nouveaux niveaux d’instabilité.

Toutefois, malgré les progrès réalisés, la démocratie reste fragile. Le rôle des institutions est essentiel pour assurer la stabilité, gérer les crises et maintenir la confiance du public dans le processus démocratique.
Vers un panafricanisme axé sur le développement
Les appels au panafricanisme doivent être axés sur le renforcement de la démocratie, de la stabilité et de la sécurité. Les défis auxquels est confrontée l’Afrique de l’Ouest ne seront pas résolus par des interventions militaires ou des changements de régime, mais par une approche concertée axée sur le développement et la coopération régionale.
Le Bénin, en tant que membre de la CEDEAO, est bien placé pour promouvoir cette vision, en plaçant la démocratie et la stabilité au cœur de ses efforts régionaux. Dans un contexte d’insécurité croissante et d’extrémisme violent, l’Afrique de l’Ouest ne peut se permettre de compromettre son avenir par l’instabilité.
