Victoire contre le Paludisme : Le Bénin Reçoit Plus de 210 000 Doses du Vaccin Antipaludique 🦟

Une étape cruciale dans la lutte contre le paludisme a été franchie aujourd’hui au Bénin avec la réception de plus de 210 000 doses du tout premier vaccin antipaludique RTS, S. Le ministre de la Santé, Benjamin Hounkpatin, accompagné du Coordonnateur résident du Système des Nations Unies, Salvator Niyonzima, ont accueilli ces précieuses doses à l’aéroport International Cardinal Bernardin Gantin de Cotonou.

Le Bénin, un pays fortement touché par le paludisme, prend des mesures significatives pour lutter contre cette maladie mortelle. Le vaccin RTS, S cible le Plasmodium falciparum, le parasite du paludisme le plus meurtrier et le plus répandu en Afrique. Recommandé par l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS), ce vaccin vise à prévenir le paludisme chez les enfants, une population particulièrement vulnérable.

Le paludisme reste la première cause d’hospitalisation et de décès chez les enfants de moins de 5 ans au Bénin. La réception de ces 210 000 premières doses marque un tournant majeur dans la lutte contre cette maladie dévastatrice. Le ministre de la Santé, le Professeur Benjamin Hounkpatin, a souligné que ces doses contribueront à réduire la mortalité infantile due au paludisme. Il a également appelé les parents à faire vacciner leurs enfants, soulignant l’importance de cette étape dans la protection de la santé des plus jeunes.

Le Coordonnateur résident du Système des Nations Unies au Bénin a exprimé sa satisfaction quant à l’introduction du vaccin antipaludique dans le programme élargi de vaccination (PEV), soulignant ainsi l’engagement continu des Nations Unies envers la santé publique au Bénin.

Ce programme de vaccination antipaludique est coordonné par l’OMS et financé par Gavi, l’Alliance du vaccin. D’autres pays africains, tels que le Cameroun, la Sierra Leone et le Burkina Faso, ont déjà reçu leurs premières doses de vaccin RTS, S. Au cours de la période 2023-2025, 12 pays d’Afrique bénéficieront au total de 18 millions de doses de ce vaccin révolutionnaire.

L’arrivée de ce vaccin antipaludique au Bénin marque un espoir considérable dans la lutte contre le paludisme, une maladie qui a fait trop de victimes dans le pays. Les autorités sanitaires et les partenaires internationaux travaillent main dans la main pour protéger la santé des enfants béninois et réaliser une avancée significative vers l’éradication du paludisme dans la région.
