Le Bénin sur la scène internationale : Dévoilement du pavillon béninois pour la 60e Biennale de Venise

Dans une annonce historique, le ministre du Tourisme, de la Culture et des Arts, Jean-Michel Abimbola, a révélé les détails de la première participation du Bénin à la 60e Biennale de Venise, l’un des plus grands événements d’art contemporain mondial.

Pour la première fois, le Bénin présentera un pavillon à la Biennale de Venise 2024. Cette initiative, selon le ministre Abimbola, s’inscrit dans la volonté de valoriser l’art contemporain béninois et de positionner la culture et les arts comme pilier central du développement du pays. Le pavillon béninois, intitulé “Everything Precious Is Fragile” (Tout ce qui est précieux est fragile), explorera des thématiques liées à la spiritualité, au vodun, à l’amazone et à la traite négrière. L’objectif est de mettre en lumière le féminisme africain, et plus particulièrement béninois.

Quatre artistes talentueux ont été sélectionnés pour représenter le Bénin : Moufouli Bello, Chloé Quenum, Ishola Akpo et Romuald Hazoumé. Leur sélection a été réalisée par un comité curatorial dirigé par le curateur Azu Nwagbogu, en collaboration avec Yassine Lassissi, directrice des Arts Visuels de l’Agence de Développement des Arts et de la Culture (ADAC) et Franck Houndégla, scénographe et designer. La production du pavillon est assurée par l’ADAC, une agence dédiée à la promotion de l’économie culturelle et artistique dans diverses disciplines. Des efforts sont actuellement en cours pour lever des fonds privés afin de financer le pavillon béninois à Venise.

La 60e Biennale de Venise, qui se déroulera du 20 avril au 24 novembre 2024, offre une occasion unique au Bénin de se positionner sur la scène culturelle internationale. Les préparatifs sont en cours pour garantir une brillante participation du Bénin à cet événement phare.
