Un navire militaire russe fait escale à Cotonou
Un signe de coopération renforcée
L’arrivée du Smolny à Cotonou témoigne de la solidité des relations entre le Bénin et la Russie. Cet événement a été marqué par la présence de hauts responsables de la marine béninoise, parmi lesquels le capitaine de vaisseau Dossa Hounkpatin, chef d’état-major de la marine nationale du Bénin, qui a fait le déplacement en personne.La cérémonie d’accueil a été suivie d’une visite guidée du navire, animée par le contre-amiral Oleg Gourinov, en charge de cette visite amicale, et le capitaine de frégate Dmitri Parakhine, commandant du Smolny. Lors de cette visite, le capitaine de vaisseau Dossa Hounkpatin et l’ambassadeur russe Igor Evdokimov ont eu l’occasion de découvrir les différents compartiments du navire.
Précédentes discussions sur la coopération
Avant l’arrivée du Smolny, une rencontre s’est tenue à Cotonou entre l’ambassadeur de Russie et le capitaine de vaisseau Émil Siemba Sama, chef d’état-major adjoint de la marine béninoise. Les discussions ont porté sur le renforcement de la coopération militaire entre les deux nations. Le Smolny, navire-école, a été lancé en 1976 et a été mis en service en 1977. Conçu pour la formation et pour sa propre défense, il fait partie de la plus ancienne flotte de la marine russe, héritière des marines impériale et soviétique. Cette flotte opère principalement en mer Baltique, avec son quartier général basé à Kaliningrad et de principales bases à Baltiïsk et Kronstadt.
