🇱🇧 Un nouveau Président élu au Liban : une lueur d’espoir dans un pays en crise
Le Liban a franchi une étape dans sa quête de stabilité politique ce jeudi 9 janvier 2025. Après plus de deux ans de vacance présidentielle, Joseph Aoun, commandant en chef de l’armée libanaise, a été élu président de la République. Avec 99 voix sur 128 députés, il devient le nouveau chef d’État, marquant le début d’une nouvelle ère pour un pays en proie à de profondes crises politiques et économiques.
Une élection attendue et soutenue
Joseph Aoun, âgé de 61 ans, a été élu lors d’un second tour de scrutin, après une rencontre déterminante avec des représentants du Hezbollah et du mouvement Amal. Ces derniers, qui avaient initialement voté blanc lors du premier tour, ont changé de position, permettant à Aoun de récolter les voix nécessaires.
Sa candidature avait reçu un large soutien de la part des États-Unis, des pays occidentaux et de l’Arabie saoudite. Ce consensus international et interne reflète l’espoir de voir l’ancien chef de l’armée restaurer la stabilité et mener des réformes indispensables.
Un mandat ambitieux et des défis de taille
Lors de son premier discours au Parlement, Joseph Aoun a annoncé des mesures symboliques fortes. Il s’est engagé à renforcer l’autorité de l’État, déclarant que celui-ci « aurait le monopole des armes », une déclaration lourde de sens dans un pays où le Hezbollah dispose de sa propre milice armée.
Le nouveau président a également promis des consultations rapides pour nommer un Premier ministre, tout en respectant la trêve avec Israël. Ces engagements soulignent sa volonté de restaurer l’autorité de l’État tout en tenant compte des équilibres régionaux.
Un homme de consensus
Bien qu’il ne possède pas d’expérience politique directe, Joseph Aoun jouit d’une réputation solide grâce à son rôle à la tête de l’armée, l’une des institutions les plus respectées au Liban. Depuis mars 2017, il a piloté cette institution en restant à l’écart des divisions confessionnelles et politiques qui minent le pays.
