À l’aube des Assises nationales sur la croissance démographique et le développement prévues pour novembre, Cotonou se transforme en une ruche d’activités. Les chiffres alarmants des prévisions rendent les discussions plus critiques que jamais.

Il a été souligné que d’ici 2030, le Bénin nécessiterait une augmentation substantielle du personnel médical. Avec des projections qui s’élèvent à 12 235 médecins, et ce chiffre passerait à 19 536 en 2040 et atteindrait 22 078 en 2050. Les besoins pour les professions infirmières sont également notables, avec une croissance anticipée de 400 à 900%.

L’éducation n’est pas en reste. Les projections montrent un accroissement notable de la population scolarisable, qui pourrait atteindre près de 5 millions d’ici 2050. Cette augmentation mettra à l’épreuve les infrastructures éducatives du pays, en particulier pour ceux âgés de 12 à 18 ans, avec des chiffres montrant des augmentations jusqu’à cinq fois les taux actuels en 2050.

Les ambitions du gouvernement en matière d’éducation sont également soulignées, avec des réformes spécifiques visant le sous-secteur de l’ESTP. Les implications financières de cette croissance sont également notables. L’enveloppe actuelle de 21 milliards pour l’enseignement supérieur contraste fortement avec les 35 milliards projetés nécessaires pour maintenir la qualité et la croissance.

L’impact économique global est également une préoccupation, avec 1% d’augmentation de la population se traduisant par une hausse de 2,6% des dépenses courantes et de 2,7% des transferts.
