Dunkerque sous tension : ArcelorMittal annonce 600 suppressions de postes, salariés et élus en colère
C’est une onde de choc qui a frappé la ville industrielle du Nord. ArcelorMittal, géant mondial de la sidérurgie, a annoncé la suppression de 600 postes sur plusieurs sites français, dont près de 200 à Dunkerque, sur les quelque 3 000 emplois que compte le site. Une décision brutale, qui a provoqué une mobilisation immédiate des syndicats et plongé les salariés dans l’incertitude.
Ce jeudi matin, les représentants syndicaux étaient sur le pied de guerre pour tenter de rassembler un maximum de salariés. « C’est ignoble ce qu’ils nous font. On subit ça depuis des années », lâche l’un d’eux, visiblement ému. Techniciens, ouvriers ou employés du service client, tous sont concernés. Le transfert de certaines fonctions vers la Pologne aggrave la colère.
« On a appris ça hier… on est encore sous le choc », confie un salarié de la production.
« Moi je suis technicien à la Syrie, on attend de savoir comment on sera impactés », ajoute un autre.
Une décision mal reçue, malgré la dynamique locale
La direction d’ArcelorMittal justifie cette coupe par la concurrence féroce sur le marché de l’acier en Europe. Une explication jugée insuffisante par le maire de Dunkerque, qui exige des garanties sur l’avenir du site et s’engage à accompagner les salariés menacés.
« Aucun salarié ne sera laissé sur le carreau », promet-il, rappelant que le bassin dunkerquois connaît actuellement un regain d’activité industrielle.
Mais sur le terrain, l’annonce laisse un goût amer, notamment chez les commerçants. Le tissu économique local redoute une baisse de consommation, à l’image de ce vendeur d’accessoires de mode :
« Crédit de maison, crédit de voiture, enfants à nourrir… qu’est-ce qu’ils vont faire ? »
Un impact bien plus large
Les syndicats alertent : avec les sous-traitants, près de 20 000 emplois sont indirectement liés à ArcelorMittal dans le Dunkerquois. Le coup porté à l’usine ne touche donc pas que ses salariés directs, mais l’ensemble de l’écosystème industriel local.
Cette annonce intervient à contretemps, dans une ville où ArcelorMittal est perçue comme une institution, et au moment même où la région tente de se réinventer comme un pôle d’innovation industrielle.
