Ce projet de loi fait suite au blocage par la Cour suprême britannique d’une version antérieure le mois dernier, suscitant des objections juridiques majeures. Le nouveau texte vise à contourner ces obstacles en s’alignant sur les termes de la Convention sur les réfugiés. James Cleverly, ministre de l’Intérieur, a souligné la conformité du projet de loi aux normes internationales, affirmant que l’accord récemment signé avec le Rwanda élimine toute incertitude juridique concernant la sécurité des migrants dans le pays africain. Il a également insisté sur le fait que cette mesure vise à mettre fin au cycle de contestations juridiques qui ont entravé la mise en œuvre de la politique migratoire du Royaume-Uni.

Un projet controversé même à l’international !

Le Premier ministre Sunak a exprimé son soutien au projet sur les réseaux sociaux, déclarant que cette législation permettra la mise en œuvre effective des vols vers le Rwanda, tout en endiguant le flux de migrants traversant la Manche. Cette politique a été conçue en réponse à l’augmentation constante du nombre de migrants arrivant illégalement au Royaume-Uni, une question qui a dominé le débat politique britannique ces dernières années. Cependant, ce projet de loi reste controversé, tant au niveau national qu’international. Les critiques soulignent les préoccupations éthiques et juridiques liées à l’expulsion de migrants vers un pays tiers, ainsi que les doutes sur la capacité du Rwanda à garantir la sécurité et le bien-être des migrants.
