Dans une déclaration ferme et précise qui a retenu l’attention du monde entier, le Secrétaire d’État américain Antony Blinken a ouvertement rejeté les appels pour un cessez-le-feu immédiat à Gaza, insistant sur la nécessité pour Israël de se défendre contre les attaques du Hamas.

Le chef de la diplomatie américaine a exprimé une position claire sur les récentes escalades de violence au Moyen-Orient. Selon Blinken, un cessez-le-feu hâtif ne ferait que renforcer le Hamas, le groupe qui gouverne Gaza et qui est désigné comme une organisation terroriste par les États-Unis, l’Union européenne et d’autres pays. Cette posture vient après les événements tragiques du 7 octobre, lors desquels des attaques revendiquées par le Hamas ont eu lieu.

“Israël a non seulement le droit, mais également l’obligation de se défendre”, a insisté Blinken lors d’une déclaration publiée sur la plateforme de partage vidéo YouTube. Cette affirmation résonne avec la politique américaine de longue date qui soutient le droit d’Israël à assurer sa sécurité face aux menaces.

Néanmoins, Blinken n’a pas omis de souligner l’importance cruciale de la manière dont Israël mène ses opérations de défense. Il a insisté sur la nécessité de prendre toutes les mesures possibles pour éviter les pertes civiles et pour que l’assistance humanitaire parvienne à ceux qui en ont besoin.

Ces commentaires sont intervenus dans le cadre d’une communication approfondie avec le gouvernement israélien, au cours de laquelle les États-Unis ont réitéré leur position concernant la minimisation des dommages aux populations civiles.
