Les prisons du Bénin, notamment celles de Cotonou, Missérété, et Ouidah, seraient le théâtre de graves violations des droits de l’homme, selon des informations recueillies auprès de sources fiables. Plusieurs détenus politiques y subiraient des traitements inhumains, dignes des heures sombres du régime militaire du PRPB avant la conférence nationale de 1990.

Isolement et privation sensorielle : une stratégie de torture psychologique 🚨🔒

Selon nos sources, les prisonniers politiques et les personnes détenues pour leurs opinions sont soumis à des conditions d’isolement extrêmes. Placés dans des chambres noires sans accès à la lumière, ils perdent toute notion du temps, incapables de distinguer le jour de la nuit. Cette privation sensorielle vise à briser leur résistance psychologique. Les détenus reçoivent une unique ration alimentaire par jour, sans possibilité de choisir leurs repas. En outre, les visites familiales sont sévèrement restreintes, autorisées seulement deux ou trois fois par mois et uniquement une personne. Ces mesures d’isolement total s’apparentent à des pratiques de torture psychologique, qui exacerbent la détresse des détenus selon plusieurs témoins qui nous ont donné des informations sur l’enfer des prisons au Bénin.

Des conditions sanitaires déplorables et des soins médicaux absents 🏥⚠️

Plusieurs prisonniers politiques souffrent de problèmes de santé chroniques, aggravés par le manque d’accès à des soins médicaux adéquats. Les cellules sont insalubres, et certains détenus restent enfermés 24 heures sur 24, sans aucun accès à l’extérieur. La promiscuité et l’absence d’hygiène contribuent à la propagation de maladies. Des sources internes affirment que les autorités pénitentiaires agissent en toute impunité, sous le regard passif des institutions nationales.

Appel urgent des défenseurs des droits de l’homme 🌍📢

Les associations de défense des droits de l’homme, dont Amnesty International, sont appelées à intervenir pour enquêter sur ces allégations. Une mission d’observation dans les prisons béninoises s’impose pour évaluer l’ampleur de la situation. Si ces allégations se confirment, elles constitueraient une régression majeure pour le Bénin, autrefois perçu comme un modèle démocratique en Afrique de l’Ouest.

Les témoignages recueillis rappellent les pratiques du Parti de la Révolution Populaire du Bénin (PRPB) avant la conférence nationale de 1990, lorsque les prisonniers politiques subissaient des tortures systématiques. Le Bénin, qui s’était illustré par une transition démocratique réussie, semble aujourd’hui régresser vers des pratiques autoritaires. Il est impératif que les autorités béninoises, ainsi que la communauté internationale, se mobilisent pour garantir le respect des droits fondamentaux des détenus. La transparence et des enquêtes indépendantes sont nécessaires pour mettre fin à ces abus et restaurer la confiance en un État de droit.
