La scolarisation des filles au Bénin reste un sujet de préoccupation majeure, malgré les progrès enregistrés au fil des années. Au Bénin, malgré les lois interdisant le mariage avant 18 ans, de nombreuses jeunes filles sont mariées avant cet âge. Une fois mariées, les filles abandonnent presque systématiquement l’école, car elles doivent s’occuper de leur foyer ou de leurs enfants. Les grossesses précoces, quant à elles, représentent également un obstacle significatif à la poursuite des études. Les adolescentes enceintes se voient souvent exclues du système scolaire ou se retirent d’elles-mêmes sous la pression sociale.
Les efforts du gouvernement et des partenaires
Face à ces défis, le gouvernement béninois, avec le soutien de plusieurs partenaires tels que l’UNICEF, a mis en place des programmes visant à encourager la scolarisation des filles. Des initiatives telles que la distribution de kits scolaires, la création de bourses et l’instauration de cantines scolaires ont été déployées pour réduire les disparités. Toutefois, ces efforts restent insuffisants face à l’ampleur des obstacles.
Le besoin d’une mobilisation collective
Pour améliorer le taux de scolarisation des filles, une mobilisation collective est nécessaire. Il est essentiel de renforcer la sensibilisation des familles et des communautés sur l’importance de l’éducation des filles, tout en mettant en place des politiques publiques plus ambitieuses.
