🎬 “Dahomey” : Le Film de Nati Diop qui Redonne Voix aux Œuvres Restituées au Bénin 🇧🇯
Le film “Dahomey”, réalisé par Nati Diop, retrace le destin de 26 trésors royaux d’Abomey restitués par la France au Bénin en 2021. Ce documentaire unique raconte l’histoire de ces œuvres du point de vue des objets eux-mêmes, mais également à travers les yeux de la jeunesse africaine, représentée par une dizaine d’étudiants béninois de l’Université d’Abomey-Calavi.
Nati Diop, le réalisateur, met en lumière un combat militant pour le retour des plus de 7 000 œuvres d’art encore dispersées à travers le monde. Diop, en utilisant le cinéma comme outil de revendication, souhaite élargir le débat autour de la restitution des œuvres d’art africaines, longtemps enfoui sous un déni historique et politique persistant.
Le film vise à sensibiliser non seulement les jeunes Béninois, mais aussi toute l’Afrique, sur l’importance de leur patrimoine culturel. Pour Diop, qui a grandi avec des dessins animés occidentaux, comme ceux de Disney, il est essentiel de créer des œuvres centrées sur des figures historiques africaines comme le roi Béhanzin, afin de raviver l’héritage culturel et historique du continent.
