Élections générales en Inde : vers une victoire de Narendra Modi avec une majorité réduite

Les élections générales en Inde semblent se diriger vers une victoire du Premier ministre sortant Narendra Modi et de son parti, le Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), bien que leur majorité pourrait être considérablement réduite. Selon Alban Alvarez, correspondant en Inde, les derniers chiffres indiquent que le BJP serait en tête dans environ 245 circonscriptions. Pour obtenir la majorité absolue, le parti doit atteindre 272 sièges, ce qui représente un recul par rapport aux 303 sièges obtenus en 2019 et aux 282 en 2014.

Résultats et perspectives

La Commission électorale indienne continue de publier les estimations et de valider les résultats. À ce stade, il est probable que le BJP ne parvienne pas à obtenir la majorité absolue seul. Cependant, grâce à des alliances avec des partis régionaux, il pourrait encore être en mesure de gouverner. Les dernières estimations des télévisions indiennes suggèrent que la coalition autour du BJP pourrait atteindre environ 300 sièges.

Opposition en force

L’alliance menée par le Parti du Congrès, comprenant une trentaine de partis d’opposition, progresse dans de nombreuses circonscriptions, y compris des bastions traditionnels du BJP. Des gains significatifs sont enregistrés dans les États du Maharashtra, de l’Haryana, du Rajasthan, et surtout de l’Uttar Pradesh. Dans cette dernière région, hautement symbolique pour les nationalistes hindous, le candidat du BJP est actuellement en difficulté dans la circonscription d’Ayodhya, un site controversé où un temple hindou a été inauguré par Modi en janvier dernier.

Ambiance au QG du BJP

Contrairement à 2019, l’atmosphère au quartier général du BJP est nettement plus calme. Selon Alvarez, les festivités sont absentes et le nombre de supporters est faible. En revanche, le quartier général du Parti du Congrès connaît une affluence plus importante, un contraste marqué par rapport aux élections précédentes. Peu de députés ou de porte-parole du BJP se montrent disponibles pour parler aux médias, notamment internationaux, et Narendra Modi n’est pas attendu avant la fin de la journée.

Conclusion

Alors que le dépouillement des votes se poursuit, l’issue des élections générales en Inde reste incertaine quant à la composition exacte de la nouvelle majorité parlementaire. Cependant, il est clair que le BJP, même s’il sort vainqueur, devra probablement compter sur des alliances pour gouverner efficacement. Les résultats définitifs seront scrutés de près, tant par les partisans du BJP que par ceux de l’opposition, qui voient en cette élection une opportunité de renverser la tendance politique en Inde.
