Cotonou, 4 août 2023 – Dans une lutte continue contre la cybercriminalité, la Cour de Répression des Infractions Économiques et du Terrorisme (CRÈTE) a tranché, jeudi dernier, sur le sort de plusieurs individus accusés de cyberescroquerie. Parmi les 15 dossiers examinés, 18 cybercriminels, communément appelés “Gaiman” au Bénin, ont été reconnus coupables.
Leurs méthodes variaient grandement, allant de se faire passer pour des investisseurs ou des donateurs, à proposer des relations intimes sur internet, voire même des consultations spirituelles. Ces escrocs, maîtres dans l’art de la tromperie, ont pu, à de nombreuses reprises, soutirer de l’argent à leurs victimes.
Selon le verdict :
- 11 cybercriminels ont été condamnés à 7 ans de prison ferme et à une amende de un million de francs CFA chacun.
- Deux autres ont reçu une peine de 7 ans de prison ferme et une amende de deux millions de francs CFA.
- Un jeune escroc, ayant tenté d’escroquer des ministres du gouvernement béninois après avoir fraudé deux autres victimes avec une affaire de faux visa, a écopé de 5 ans de prison ferme et une amende d’un million de francs CFA.
- Quatre ressortissants nigériens, également impliqués dans de tels actes, ont été condamnés à 5 ans de prison avec sursis et devront chacun s’acquitter d’une amende d’un million de francs CFA.
- Pour finir, quatre autres ont été relaxés, bénéficiant du doute.
La CRIET, en prononçant ces peines, confirme sa détermination à lutter contre la cybercriminalité et à assurer la sécurité du cyberespace béninois.
