 Mondial 2026: Le Bénin face à un défi majeur, réaction du sélectionneur Gernot Rohr

Le tirage au sort de la 45e Assemblée générale ordinaire (AGO) de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) a placé le Bénin dans un groupe relevé pour les éliminatoires de la Coupe du monde 2026. Vendredi 14 juillet, Gernot Rohr, le sélectionneur béninois, a partagé ses réflexions sur le tirage au sort dans une vidéo diffusée sur les réseaux sociaux.

Le Groupe C des éliminatoires est perçu par beaucoup comme un groupe de la mort, avec le Nigeria comme grand favori. Cependant, Rohr a souligné que toutes les équipes du groupe sont redoutables, y compris l’Afrique du Sud, le Zimbabwe, le Rwanda et le Lesotho. La situation géographique du groupe rend également la compétition intéressante. Le Nigeria et le Bénin, par exemple, sont des pays voisins, tandis que l’Afrique du Sud, le Zimbabwe et le Lesotho sont également géographiquement proches. Cette proximité pourrait créer des rivalités régionales intenses et des matchs passionnants.

Malgré les défis, Rohr a déclaré que l’équipe béninoise était pleine de confiance après leur récent match contre le Sénégal. Il a souligné l’importance de poursuivre sur cette lancée positive et de maintenir une préparation solide pour les éliminatoires de la Coupe du Monde 2026, qui commencent en novembre. Rohr a déclaré que le Bénin était prêt à jouer un rôle important dans le groupe, malgré la difficulté de la tâche. Il a également exprimé son impatience de retrouver des joueurs qu’il connaît bien dans l’équipe nigériane, les Super Eagles.

Alors que le Bénin se prépare à relever ce défi, le monde du football africain attend avec impatience de voir comment se dérouleront les éliminatoires de la Coupe du monde 2026.
