🇫🇷 11 novembre : la France commémore les 106 ans de l’armistice, Keir Starmer invité d’honneur

Ce 11 novembre 2024, la France a célébré les 106 ans de l’armistice mettant fin à la Première Guerre mondiale, une guerre qui a coûté la vie à environ 10 millions de personnes et blessé 19 millions d’autres. Ce moment historique a été marqué par la reddition de l’Allemagne dans la forêt de Compiègne le 11 novembre 1918 à 5h20 du matin. Les cérémonies du souvenir ont, cette année, revêtu une dimension particulière avec la présence du Premier ministre britannique, Keir Starmer, un fait marquant qui ne s’était pas produit depuis 1944 avec Winston Churchill.

Un symbole fort pour l’entente franco-britannique

Keir Starmer a participé à ces commémorations symboliques marquant également les 120 ans de l’Entente cordiale, soulignant l’importance de la coopération entre la France et le Royaume-Uni. Le Premier ministre britannique a tenu une réunion d’une heure avec le Président Emmanuel Macron à l’Élysée, discutant de divers sujets d’actualité internationale, dont la guerre en Ukraine et l’impact potentiel du retour de Donald Trump à la présidence américaine.

Les enjeux de la guerre en Ukraine et les défis européens

Au cœur des discussions entre Macron et Starmer figurait la question de l’Ukraine et le soutien européen face à l’agression russe. Alors que l’Europe a déjà versé 118 milliards d’euros d’aide à l’Ukraine, des incertitudes demeurent quant à l’avenir de cette assistance, notamment si Donald Trump, ayant promis une résolution rapide du conflit, réduisait l’engagement américain. La coopération post-Brexit, notamment en matière de défense, devrait également figurer à l’ordre du jour des discussions à venir.
