🌍🕊️ Pourquoi Patrice Talon défend fermement la démocratie en Afrique de l’Ouest lors de la session extraordinaire de la CEDEAO

Lagos, Nigéria – Le Président béninois, Patrice Talon, a été au premier plan lors de la session extraordinaire de la CEDEAO qui s’est tenue le jeudi 10 août 2023, pour mettre en lumière la position sans équivoque de l’organisation régionale face à la situation politique tendue au Niger.

Selon Talon, l’essence même de la CEDEAO, et en particulier de son Conseil des chefs d’État, est de “protéger les droits de l’homme, la démocratie et la bonne gouvernance pour le développement” des nations africaines. Cette position ferme et inébranlable est guidée par une vision où le bien-être des citoyens africains est au centre des préoccupations.

La crise au Niger, déclenchée par le renversement du président Mohamed Bazoum, a été mise en avant comme un rappel poignant de la nécessité de sauvegarder la démocratie. Pour Talon, la voix des peuples, exprimée par le vote, est sacrée et doit être protégée à tout prix. “La CEDEAO n’acceptera pas que les coups d’État deviennent le moyen par lequel les dirigeants sont choisis”, a déclaré Talon, soulignant l’importance de la démocratie comme fondement essentiel pour la stabilité et le progrès de la région.

La position de Talon et celle de la CEDEAO reflètent l’aspiration de millions d’Africains à vivre dans des pays où les droits, la démocratie et le développement sont garantis. Le message est clair : l’Afrique de l’Ouest, sous l’égide de la CEDEAO, restera fermement engagée dans la promotion et la défense de la démocratie pour assurer un avenir prospère à ses citoyens.
